innovating organizations

I worked with Territory on a strategic planning and organizational design project as the lead strategist and it was pure delight for many reasons. Here are the main ones:

1. Henderson Libraries leadership and staff are creative, innovative and deeply committed to their community. I felt honored to help guide them through envisioning and then enacting a transformation. A real-deal, think-outside-the-box transformation grounded in the needs and interests of their communities and their people. That kind of thing doesn't happen all that often. It's inspiring.

2. My Territory teammates were not only highly skilled, they were collaborative and creative. And they are just all around phenomenal human beings. This project was FUN! I got to do the kind of work I love - human-centered strategy and organizational design - with a great group of people who I could learn from and keep growing with at the same time. What a gift.

3. I come from a reading family. The kind of family where as a kid we'd all end up in the living room reading our books after dinner (which incidentally became known as "the library", as in "shh, it's the library!"); the kind where phone calls always include catching up on what each person is reading; the kind where everyone has their library card. This was a labor of love. The world is a better place with libraries in it!

The moral of the story: it's always about people. It turns out that's the best part, too.
